BIOGRAPHY
Since her remarkable debut at the tender age of fourteen, Toronto-based artist Tasha T has been delighting audiences in Canada, the US and Jamaica. Now with the release of her self titled album, ‘Tasha T’ (on the Rasvibe Vibe Records Inc./Running Rebel Productions labels), distributed by Nocturne-Cornershop in Europe. Tasha is poised to leave a lasting and indelible impression on reggae lovers everywhere. Her CD will be among the favorites pile in any reggae lover’s home.
Due out in the Spring of 2006 the album will solidify Tasha T as a bold and innovative songstress. Her versatility is displayed on the sing-jay style remake of the late Phyllis Dillon’s ‘One Life to Live’, retitled ’Win or Lose’. As a single, the song stayed on the New York Top 10 Reggae Chart for twenty-two weeks in 2003 reaching as high as #7. It was also featured on the Canadian compilation CD titled ‘Honey Drops’ featuring Canada’s rising female talents and Tasha has the distinct honor of being the only reggae artist featured.
No stranger to the stage, Tasha’s recent live performances include opening for Beres Hammond on his ‘Love Has No Boundaries Tour’ in 2005, featuring Marcia Griffiths and Jimmy Cozier, in Florida and Philadelphia and also ‘For The Love Of It Tour’ 2004, featuring Maxi Priest and Marcia Griffiths, at New Jersey’s RexPlex sports and amusement complex. In 2004 she also performed in Jamaica for black history month. The show featured artists such as Luciano, Admiral Tibet and Natty King. In 2003 she has opened for international African artist Alpha Blondy, in Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and New York. Tasha T has graced the stage in the presence of other international artist including The Mighty Sparrow, at the International Centre in Toronto Canada (this show included Beres Hammond as headliner), Reggae Carifest (Arthur Ashe Stadium NY), featuring Bounty Killa, Coco Tea, Elephant Man and Capleton and at the Irie Jamboree (Westchester NY) featuring Sean Paul, Wayne Wonder, Big Daddy Cane and Baby Cham. In April 2002, she became the first reggae artist to perform at Harry Jerome Awards Show, Canada’s most prestigious award show.
The talent of this young lady has not gone unnoticed. Tasha T has received various awards starting in 1993 when she received ‘Best Female DJ’ at the Toronto Talent Competition. The Canadian Reggae awards for ‘Best Female Newcomer’ in 1999 and ‘Best Dancehall Female’ in 2000, 2001 and 2002. Tasha T. also received a nomination for ‘Best Reggae Recording’ from Juno Awards 2000----Canada’s equivalent to the US Grammy’s.
Tasha T’s debut album ‘Tasha T’ was recorded with, among others, noted producers Sidney Mills (of Steel Pulse fame), Buju Banton (Gargamel), and Rohan Dwyer.
