DJ PACO IN JAMAICA @ BOB MARLEY HOUSE @ 9 MILE December 2006 |
|
![]() |
We arrived in Ocho Rios, Jamaica on a warm and sunny December morning. We had reserved 2 spots on an all day trip to Bob Marley’s home and final resting place located at Nine Mile, Jamaica. We didn’t have to look very hard to find our tour bus - you couldn’t miss it! As you board the bus, the first question you are asked is “beer or rum punch?” when it is not even nine in the morning! The rest of the passengers were from all age groups, nationalities and colors! We were all there for the same reason - to pay tribute to the undisputed king of reggae music, Robert Nesta Marley. |
| The interior of the “ZION BUS” was decorated all over with pictures, posters and all kinds of memorabilia spanning Bob Marley’s career, all the way up to his untimely demise in 1981. |

As the tour started, the first order of the day was to crank up the music full blast and all of us were invited to sing along - to what else? Bob’s songs! As we got out of Ocho Rios, and we kept singing and listening to the narration of interesting Marley trivia, the most spectacular scenery was right in front of us! It was also very interesting experiencing the driving on those narrow roads - thankfully we had a very skilled and professional driver.
I don’t know what I expected Nine Mile to look like. Our first indication was a sign on the road directing us to the Bob Marley Mausoleum and upon arrival, the tall and heavy gates were opened for our tour bus and we were soon welcomed to Bob’s childhood home.
We were first assigned to our guide “Koyuk” aka “Captain Crazy”. He gave us the tour of Bob Marley’s home, shared lots of information with us and made us laugh the whole time with his contagious laugh! We got to see Bob’s home, his bedroom (including the original “single bed” featured in the tune “Is This Love?” the rock where he used to lay down to meditate and reflect. We were also given the opportunity to pay our respects at the gigantic black marble tomb holding Bob’s remains. |

As a devoted reggae fan since 1980, this was the highlight of my whole vacation maybe my whole life. This experience made me appreciate even more his humble upbringing and where he got the inspiration for many of his ever popular and enduring tunes that are now a legacy for the whole universe to enjoy.
Until We Meet Again, DJ Paco |
